This page is the running record of obesity drug news at Life Science Daily News. It tracks what moved in the obesity and GLP-1 pipeline each month. Entries cover trial readouts, regulatory filings, approvals and label expansions.

How this tracker works

This page records movement, not mechanism. Four things earn an entry. The first is a Phase 2 or Phase 3 readout. The second is a regulatory milestone such as a filing, an acceptance or a target action date. The third is an approval or a label expansion. The fourth is a clinically material safety or supply event. Pricing and reimbursement moves sit outside that boundary. So do financing and deal stories, which belong to our biopharma coverage. Early preclinical work is also excluded. Entries in this obesity drug news log are short by design. Where a drug already has dedicated coverage, the entry points to it rather than repeating it. Readers who want the full map of candidates should start with our guide to the GLP-1 drug pipeline.

October 2026 obesity drug news

October’s most consequential obesity drug news came from the European Medicines Agency. On 15 October, its CHMP recommended authorising Lilly’s oral GLP-1 Foundayo (orforglipron) for weight management and type 2 diabetes. EASD 2026 in Milan also delivered full Phase 3 data for retatrutide and orforglipron, plus new Phase 3 survodutide results.

Approvals and label expansions

No approvals or label expansions for obesity or GLP-1 therapies were recorded in October 2026. The European Commission has yet to decide on Foundayo following the CHMP opinion, covered under Regulatory milestones below.

Trial readouts

Several results below were presented at EASD 2026 on 29 and 30 September, after the previous update closed.

Lilly presented full Phase 3 results from TRIUMPH-2, which randomised 1,152 adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity or overweight. At 80 weeks, weight fell 12.7%, 19.1% and 20.8% on the 4 mg, 9 mg and 12 mg doses. Placebo produced a 4.0% fall, and all figures use the efficacy estimand. Discontinuation due to adverse events was 7.7% at 12 mg versus 4.9% on placebo. Dysaesthesia was reported in 7.3% and 0.7% respectively. According to Lilly’s TRIUMPH-2 announcement, the results were published simultaneously in The Lancet. Our retatrutide analysis covers the wider Phase 3 programme.

ACHIEVE-4 was a Phase 3 trial comparing orforglipron with insulin glargine in 2,749 adults. Participants had type 2 diabetes, obesity or overweight, and increased cardiovascular risk. Orforglipron met the non-inferiority criterion for four-component major adverse cardiovascular events (hazard ratio 0.84, 95% CI 0.59 to 1.20). At 52 weeks (efficacy estimand), body weight fell 8.8% with orforglipron and rose 1.7% with glargine. Lilly reported 10.6% discontinuation due to adverse events with orforglipron, per its ACHIEVE-4 release. Results were also published in The Lancet. Our guide to GLP-1 side effects sets tolerability figures like these in context.

Lilly also reported Phase 2b results for eloraTZP, combining the amylin agonist eloralintide with tirzepatide. The trial enrolled 367 adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes. At 48 weeks (efficacy estimand), the highest-dose combination produced 23.3% weight loss. That compared with 14.8% for tirzepatide 15 mg alone and 3.0% for placebo. Discontinuation due to adverse events ranged from 10.8% to 27.0% across combination arms, 2.9% for tirzepatide and 16.7% for placebo. Our amylin analogues explainer covers the wider class.

Boehringer Ingelheim reported Phase 3 SYNCHRONIZE-2 results for survodutide on 1 October. The 76-week trial enrolled 755 adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes. Weight loss reached up to 13.1% (efficacy estimand), against 3.1% for placebo. Discontinuation due to gastrointestinal adverse events was 18% with survodutide versus 1.2% with placebo. The results were presented at EASD and published in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Zealand Pharma announced Phase 2b topline results from ZUPREME-2, testing its amylin analogue petrelintide, on 7 October. The trial enrolled 220 people with overweight or obesity and type 2 diabetes. At week 28 (efficacy estimand), weight fell 7.4% to 9.2% across petrelintide arms, against 2.0% for placebo. Discontinuation due to gastrointestinal adverse events was 1.9%, against 1.7% for placebo. Full results are expected at a future scientific meeting.

Novo Nordisk’s EASD programme consisted mainly of post hoc, pooled and real-world analyses, which fall outside this tracker’s criteria.

Regulatory milestones

On 15 October, the EMA’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use adopted a positive opinion on Foundayo. The recommended indications cover weight management in adults and insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes. It covers adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or from 27 with a weight-related comorbidity. A European Commission decision on marketing authorisation is pending. Foundayo is already authorised in the UK by the MHRA and approved by the FDA for obesity.

Lilly has not yet filed retatrutide with the FDA and targets a Biologics License Application in Q1 2027. The Seventh Circuit heard oral argument on 24 September in Eli Lilly and Company v. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. The appeal concerns whether retatrutide should be classified as a biologic. No ruling had been entered on the court docket at the time of writing.

Novo Nordisk filed its New Drug Application for CagriSema with the FDA in December 2025. Novo has said it expects FDA review in 2026, but no decision date has been published.

Pipeline and supply developments

Lilly plans to start Phase 3 trials of an eloraTZP co-formulation by the end of 2026. Boehringer Ingelheim has started SYNCHRONIZE-T2D, a further Phase 3 trial of survodutide focused on glycaemic control.

What to watch in November

The European Commission’s decision on Foundayo is the next EU step after the CHMP opinion. A Seventh Circuit ruling on retatrutide’s classification remains awaited. Novo Nordisk expects the FDA to complete its CagriSema review in 2026. NICE’s appraisal of orforglipron is expected to publish on 18 November 2026. Lilly reports third-quarter results on 29 October. Novo Nordisk is also due to report third-quarter results. ObesityWeek runs in Washington DC from 14 to 17 November. Boehringer Ingelheim expects SYNCHRONIZE-CVOT cardiovascular outcomes results later in 2026.

The standing watchlist

Each month’s review checks the same set of programmes. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are tracked for new indications and outcomes data. Orforglipron, CagriSema and retatrutide are tracked for regulatory progress. MariTide is tracked for extended-dosing data. Next-wave candidates include zenagamtide, formerly known as amycretin, alongside survodutide and pemvidutide. Zealand’s petrelintide is tracked through its registrational Phase 3 programme. China-origin agonists such as mazdutide and ecnoglutide are tracked for approvals and data.
